چکیده
We report on the characterization of a thick sequence pyroclastic deposits exposed summit area and flanks Mount Melbourne volcano, in northern Victoria Land, Antarctica related to eruptions during Late Glacial period. provide complete tephra including mineralogy, single shard major- trace-element glass compositions, an 40Ar-39Ar age feldspar crystals extracted from deposit. The are trachybasaltic trachytic composition interpreted have resulted four Strombolian/Vulcanian sub-Plinian/Plinian eruptions. younger more intense eruption (our 2) yielded 13.5 ± 4.3 ka (±2σ). study proximal provides significant new data for reconstruction volcano eruptive history better assessment volcanic risk connected possible future eruption. also explore geochemical correlations between distal layers recognized ice cores blue fields East Antarctica. A good match exists products 2 some Talos Dome shards Siple which is compatible (c. 9.3 ka) with our determination. Our insights into high-quality electron microprobe trace element its will help improve synchronization archives region.

Observations on Granite Weathering Phenomena, Mount Keinath, Northern Victoria Land, Antarctica
Rock varnish, erosional grooves, and well-developed cavernous weathering phenomena occur in close association on a small biotite-monzogranite nunatak in the Northern Foothills region, Northern Victoria Land, Antarctica. The grooves, similar in appearance to the ‘rinnenkarren’ described in the karst literature, are developed on steeply inclined (>35°) bedrock surfaces while the rock varnish occu...
متن کاملTiming of millennial-scale climate change in Antarctica and Greenland during the last glacial period.
A precise relative chronology for Greenland and West Antarctic paleotemperature is extended to 90,000 years ago, based on correlation of atmospheric methane records from the Greenland Ice Sheet Project 2 and Byrd ice cores. Over this period, the onset of seven major millennial-scale warmings in Antarctica preceded the onset of Greenland warmings by 1500 to 3000 years. In general, Antarctic temp...

متن کاملEcological Biogeography of the Terrestrial Nematodes of Victoria Land, Antarctica
The terrestrial ecosystems of Victoria Land, Antarctica are characteristically simple in terms of biological diversity and ecological functioning. Nematodes are the most commonly encountered and abundant metazoans of Victoria Land soils, yet little is known of their diversity and distribution. Herein we present a summary of the geographic distribution, habitats and ecology of the terrestrial ne...
